Engaging Central Texans with Wildlife and Conservation Through Birds

Donate now to our mission of engaging Central Texans with Wildlife and Conservations Through Birds. Every contribution supports our mission of environmental stewardship throughout Central Texas

In the Heart of Texas and the Heart of Migration.

For over 45 years, the Central Texas Audubon Society has been engaging Central Texans and beyond with wildlife conservation through birds. We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that provides opportunities for all ages to learn and experience the importance of our natural bird wildlife, both locally and beyond.

Since 1969, we have had the pleasure of being involved with the Central Texas Species Checklist, Civic Science, Christmas Bird Count, Breeding Count, and playing a vital role alongside the City of Waco in protecting our habitats.

Why Central Texas?

Central Texas is a premier birding destination, renowned for its rich diversity and unique habitats. The region's varied landscapes, including the serene Waco Wetlands, expansive prairies, and the over 30-acre Cameron Park in the heart of Downtown Waco, birders and novice alike have found themselves traveling to Central Texas.

Central Texas sits at the convergence of multiple migratory pathways, making it a vital stopover for numerous species during their seasonal migrations. Birders can witness the vibrant displays of songbirds, raptors, waterfowl, and more, all within a relatively compact area.

The abundance of state parks, nature preserves, and birding trails further enhances the birding experience, offering both novice and experienced birders unparalleled opportunities to observe and appreciate these magnificent creatures in their natural settings.

Whether you're seeking the colorful spectacle of spring migrations or the quieter charm of winter residents, Central Texas offers a birding experience like no other, and the Central Texas Audubon Society is here to take you on that journey.

We are so much more than just birds.

Take it from us, we love birds. But we love conservation of our natural habitats too. With everything we do we are educating current and future generations to have the same passion.

We are always involved in the community with educational events, outdoor learning, and ways to get youth and adults of all ages into nature.

Check out our upcoming events to get involved with us.

As a Central Texas Audubon Member, funds go back to conservation, education, and initiatives to protect our habitats.
